Live Scan is an electronic fingerprinting service used for criminal background checks required by employers, licensing boards and other agencies. Monterey Live Scan uses current, up-to-date equipment so your appointment is quick and easy.

How does the process work?
- Bring your form and IDYour agency gives you a Request for Live Scan Service form. Fill it out before you arrive.
- We scan your printsYour fingerprints are captured electronically. No ink.
- Prints go straight to the DOJThey're transmitted immediately to the California Department of Justice for processing.
- Your agency gets the resultsResults typically reach your employer or licensing agency within a few business days.
We do not receive your results. We only take and submit your fingerprints.
What do I need to bring?
Required
- Your completed Request for Live Scan Service form
- A current, unexpired photo ID, such as a driver's license, passport, or state DMV ID card
Other accepted IDs
- Driver's license or ID card from another state
- Mexican or Canadian driver's license issued by an authorized agency
- U.S. military ID card
- Foreign passport stamped by U.S. immigration
All IDs must be current and not expired.
How do I pay?
Who pays depends on the agency requesting your Live Scan. Some agencies are billed directly, and others ask you to pay at your appointment. The total depends on what's listed on your Live Scan request form.
We accept cash and credit cards.
How do I check my results?
Contact the agency that requested your Live Scan. Results usually reach them within 7–10 business days.
You can also call the DOJ's automated line at 916-227-4557. Have your ATI number ready. It's printed at the bottom of your Request for Live Scan form.
